Induction to College Life and Mental Health Awareness

đź“… Date: 02 July 2025
📍 Venue: Department of Electronics & Computer Science
Facilitator: Ms. Hanna K. A., College Psychologist, Jeevani – Centre for Student Well-being
As part of the initiatives by the Jeevani Centre for Student Well-being, a one-hour orientation session on “Induction to College Life and Mental Health Awareness” was conducted on 2nd July 2025 for the department of Electronics and Computer science first-year ECC students. The session, facilitated by Ms. Hanna K. A., began with an icebreaker to create a welcoming and interactive environment for the freshers.

Students were introduced to the Jeevani Centre, its objectives, services, and how to access psychological and emotional support during their college journey. The session addressed vital areas including the transition from school to college, adolescence to adulthood, and how unmet expectations can affect a student’s mental well-being. Through interactive discussions and group activities, the session helped break the stigma around mental health by encouraging students to share concerns openly. Key mental health concerns among college students—such as academic stress, anxiety, emotional challenges, relationship issues, substance use, trauma, and self-confidence— were explored. Students were also introduced to the concept of Psychological First Aid (PFA), equipping them with simple strategies to support themselves and peers in times of emotional distress.

The session concluded with a briefing on the availability, location, and role of the Jeevani Centre on campus, followed by feedback collection from the participants. The session was well-received and served as a vital step in sensitizing students to the importance of mental well-being in their academic and personal lives.
